Summary
THE STREET 9pm, BBC1 Self-hating, poetry-spouting alcoholic Shay (Stephen Graham) is forced to reassess his life when he meets Otto, his 16-year-old son with Down's syndrome, for the first time. Once again The Street dazzles with its ability to range from the Big Issues (Iraq, prostitution, addiction) to the minutiae of human relationships without selling us short. It never looks -- or behaves -- like kitchen-sink drama. Don't expect a conventional happy ending.
THE TROUBLE WITH GIRLS 9pm, BBC2 In this touching documentary, we follow friends Becki, Stacey and Vanessa, three 16-year-olds from Rochdale, where unemployment rates are high and teenage pregnancy is above the national average. During the year of filming there are three pregnancies within the group which leads to strained relationships. Becki, the first expectant mum, and her boyfriend must survive on benefits, and eventually all three girls drop out of school without GCSEs. Made by Morgan Matthews, this programme puts real faces to tabloid scare stories.See the full content of this document
