Nowadays composed chess problems require a quiet non-checking first move, subtle follow-ups, and a variety of final checkmates. Back in the 18th century, when del Rio composed today's puzzle, the parameters were different. Positions were game-like, the first move was usually a check, there were few variations to calculate, and the theme was a tactic such as you would expect to find in modern textbooks for novices.
