ASDA is to stop accepting cheques at 21 of its stores in London. The trial "cash and plastic only" policy will run for 11 weeks from today, although customers will be allowed to use their chequebooks for the next three weeks if they have no other way of paying. A spokesman said: "The idea behind it is to see whether it speeds up time at the checkout.
