PUB ballet has long been a dream of mine, with a Swan Lake at every Dog and Duck. I don't suppose many share this entertainment fantasy, but the Gate Theatre comes close with I Am Falling, a new pub dance production that combines speech and dance with the movement, as director Carrie Cracknell puts it, "a primary mode of expression".
The mix is hardly new. Dancetheatre queen bee Pina Bausch has been doing it since the 1970s, with William Forsythe, Alain Platel and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui recent masters of the genre.
