SOME European Union countries should be banned from exporting eggs to Britain due to salmonella fears, according to experts.
An EU report said there were high levels of salmonella contamination in commercial poultry units across Europe, with the highest levels found in Czech Republic, Poland and Spain. Although 85 per cent of the eggs eaten in Britain are produced on British farms, the remainder are imported from Europe, according to the British Egg Industry Council.
