Definition: To manoeuvre protesters into a small area using a cordon of police personnel and vehicles. Term applied during last week's G20 marches and yesterday's anti-civil war protests by Sri Lankans in London.

Example: "We should kettle the demonstrators to keep them from spreading further." Etymology: From the Old High German word kezzil, kettle, and the variation einkesseln, an old military term which means to surround.
