THEY reckon the new South Stand at Twickenham is going to be spectacular but what its charioteers really, really want is a rebuilt England team to match. On Saturday, it was tempting to be persuaded that they'd seen the first major pillar for this reconstruction in the shape of the awesome structure that is Andrew Sheridan.

Before the match, one could only gaze on the vast hole where the stand used to be and think that it must have gone the same way as HQ's reputation for being the fortress. With England's invincibility here, the heroes, one by one, had seemed to have departed, too . . . no more Martin Johnson, Jason Leonard, Jonny Wilkinson (temporarily at least) or Jason Robinson.
