THE state of Britain's ageing fleet of nuclear power stations and fears of electricity shortages this winter have been brought into sharp relief after British Energy warned its nuclear output could slide by as much as 12% this year.
Shares in British Energy today plunged 38p to 597p after the company, which supplies the UK with 20% of its electricity, warned of a "significant" amount of boilertube cracking on one of its reactors at Hunterston in Scotland.See the full content of this document
