Some people might say that South had no reason to expect anything in the dummy and should not have bid 6H with three potential losers in his hand. It is not a sound argument.
Suppose the West hand had been the dummy, for example. There would have been 12 top tricks. A wiser analysis would be that it is unreasonable to expect there will be nothing in the dummy! How will you play 6H when West leads the eight of spades, East winning with the queen and switching to a diamond? You win with the ace, cash the ace of trumps and lead the nine of trumps to dummy's 10, East showing out. Now you lead the jack of spades. If East fails to cover, you will throw your club loser. Let's say that East covers with the ace. You ruff high, to retain the six, and return to dummy with the six of trumps to dummy's eight, drawing West's last trump.See the full content of this document
