Summary
MANY will regard Boris Johnson's alcohol ban with derision but let us remember that prior to the King's Cross Tube fire in November 1987 nobody would have dreamed that a smoking ban on Tubes, buses, trams and trains would ever be accepted by the public. With a few notable exceptions (Charles Kennedy among them), people have even refrained from smoking on open railway platforms since July last year.
Although I did not vote for Johnson (Paddick was my first choice for Mayor), he is to be warmly congratulated on this move. Even if it costs a lot to introduce and police, it is a far better way to spend Londoners' money than the frivolous waste so loved by Livingstone.See the full content of this document
