Bravo to Boris's Bus Booze Ban

Summary

MANY will regard Boris Johnson's alcohol ban with derision but let us remember that prior to the King's Cross Tube fire in November 1987 nobody would have dreamed that a smoking ban on Tubes, buses, trams and trains would ever be accepted by the public. With a few notable exceptions (Charles Kennedy among them), people have even refrained from smoking on open railway platforms since July last year.

Although I did not vote for Johnson (Paddick was my first choice for Mayor), he is to be warmly congratulated on this move. Even if it costs a lot to introduce and police, it is a far better way to spend Londoners' money than the frivolous waste so loved by Livingstone.
