OFFICIALS investigating the death of a senior executive at BP's Russian joint venture over the weekend believe he may have been assassinated.

Enver Ziganshin, first deputy general director and chief engineer of Rusia Petroleum, died after being shot in the back and head while in his sauna at his country house in Siberia.
