Why? It's set in the beautiful Dartmoor National Park and has a lovely welcoming feel, despite the obvious grandness of the place. Built for the WH Smith heir, Viscount Hambledon, it is decorated in luxurious 1920s style, with stylish artdeco touches and lots of rooms to explore - the glorious Cathedral Room, the cosy Cigar Room and the library are just a few.

The grounds are immaculate and the 18-hole golf course is considered one of the best in the country. The staff are perfect, the 65 individually-decorated rooms luxurious, and the cocktail menu in the oak-panelled bar probably the most extensive you will find.
