GORDON SELFRIDGE may have failed in his campaign to get Bond Street Tube station renamed "Selfridges" but on its 100th anniversary the iconic emporium is still going strong. Among the guests at a party hosted by Alannah Weston in the Yellow Cafe last night was Boris Johnson, fashionably late as usual, pictured here with Alannah (far left) and her mother Hilary (left). Joan Collins and Lily Allen also turned up. "Not a lot of people know that I began my career in retail at M& S," said the Mayor.
"Gordon Selfridge coined the phrase that 'the customer is always right'. He was also, I believe, the first to sell fridges. Selfridges has now survived six recessions, one depression and two World Wars.See the full content of this document
