Summary
QUANTUM of Solace may have disappointed many critics, but there's more to it than meets the eye. This isn't the nostalgic Bond of gadgets and puns but one set in times as turbulent as those that gave birth to Ian Fleming's novels.
Bond works for a UK government that tortures suspects on foreign soil and blindly goes along with foreign governments' interests and crime syndicates in its desperation to snatch the scraps from the superpowers' tables. Initially, Bond is just as ruthless as his masters but this arrogance is gradually smoothed away as he learns the importance of forgiveness, the quantum of solace of the title. Whereas 007 was once a stylish symbol, now we watch him grow into a believable modern icon the start of a new golden age of Bond movies perhaps.See the full content of this document
