Blunders and Fraud Lose Us Pounds 3 Billion in Benefits Waste

WHITEHALL'S spending watchdog has refused to endorse the accounts of the Department for Work and Pensions after finding that Pounds 3 billion was lost to benefit fraud and error last year, it emerged today.

The National Audit Office found that the benefits with the highest risk of fraud were income support and jobseeker's allowance.
