SINCE her debut album Dogs quietly became a contemporary folk classic, Nina Nastasia has been bewitching fans on both sides of the Atlantic with her sparse, spooky songs. Born in Hollywood, and now based in New York, Nastasia's haunting vocals possess the raw honesty of PJ Harvey, delivered with the dreaminess of Rickie Lee Jones. Drifting in and out of her music are mandolin, violins, an ebbing cello and accordion, although her latest album, On Leaving, favours elegant piano backing.
