AS the BBC contemplates sacking a large number of its 28,000 staff in preparation for its 2006 charter renewal battle, the corporation stands accused of spending too much of its Pounds 3 billion annual budget on property investment and not enough on programmes.

One major bone of contention is the new Media Village at White City carried out under the 30-year property partnership with Land Securities Trillium signed in 2001.
