Barclays Fund Opens New Junk Bond Door

Summary


BARCLAYS is to launch what is thought to be the first major fund allowing the public to invest in the exclusive junk bond market.

Junk bonds, made famous by US tycoon Michael Milken in the 1980s, are sold by companies perceived as having a higher risk of defaulting on their repayments. Because of the added risk, they attract higher rates of returns than traditional corporate bonds, known as investment grade bonds.
