BARCLAYS chief executive John Varley is confident he will win the bid battle for Dutch bank ABN Amro, seeing off the rival bid from a consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland.
Giving details today of the British bank's 12% rise in half-year profits, he said: "We will be posting our offer document and I am confident we can win."
