Bank of Ireland Hit by Pounds 375,000 Laundering Penalty

BANK of Ireland was today fined Pounds 375,000 by the Financial Services Authority for failing to spot a series of high-risk cash deals at a UK branch that were in clear breach of anti-money laundering rules, writes Nick Goodway.

Between 1998 and 2002, the unnamed branch issued 40 bank drafts running to Pounds 1.8 million, effectively usable as cash, on behalf of one its largest customers.
