MORE and more young people are getting better A-levels. Surely cause for celebration. But most universities, employers and the public do not see it this way.The general mood is that now nearly everyone passes, A-levels cannot be what they were.
This is unfair on the students who have worked their socks off and the schools that are making every effort to provide high- quality teaching. For students, A-levels are getting harder because they are in competition with so many others for the leading universities.
