MICHAEL Portillo made a valiant attempt to defend this year's Man Booker Prize shortlist last night at a special party for the nominated six at the Guildhall.
The biggest shock was that Salman Rushdie's novel, The Enchantress of Florence, was left off but Portillo denies Rushdie has been snubbed. "This has been a great coming together of minds," said Portillo, chair of this year's panel of judges.See the full content of this document
