THE Army's presence in Northern Ireland is to be scaled back drastically after the IRA pledged to hand over all its weapons within eight weeks, it emerged today.

In a bid to build quickly on the momentum of the historic declaration that the IRA's armed struggle" is over, the Government is preparing to demilitarise the Province.
