VALENTINE'S Day has dodgy origins. Perhaps St Valentine was a Christian martyred on 14 February 269 AD. Or perhaps not.
In the early Church at least three different martyrs named Valentine were commemorated on this day, none for their romantic associations. In 1969, as part of an attempt to cull imaginary saints, Valentine's Day was dropped from the Catholic Church calendar.See the full content of this document
